Construction Site Noise, Vibration & Dust (NVD) Monitoring

Value-adding assessment and management of noise and vibration risks above and below ground, so that you can get on with construction.

We provide rigorous noise, vibration & dust (NVD) monitoring, comprehensive Section 61 noise-control permitting, and tailored Noise, Dust & Vibration Management Plans (NDVMPs).

Whether you’re seeking detailed monitoring, regulatory compliance or practical site control, we act as your trusted acoustic, vibration and environmental consultancy partner.

Award Winning Noise & Vibration Management

Noise and vibration during construction are a critical concern for any major development because of the  potential effect on nearby businesses and residents. Failure to adequately assess and put in place appropriate control measures can lead to a site being closed down until appropriate management is put in place.

During 20 years as an acoustic consultancy, we have worked on numerous construction projects and have conducted over 2.5 million hours of unattended noise and vibration monitoring in major infrastructure projects and prepared 1000+ construction noise models and Section 61 applications.

Anderson Acoustics has the capability and competence to assess, manage and monitor noise and vibration impacts  so you can focus on getting on with the construction.

NVD Monitoring - Noise, Vibration & Dust

Comprehensive baseline measurement and continuous monitoring of noise, vibration and dust levels throughout your construction site lifecycle.

  • Using Class 1 sound level meters, vibration logging systems and MCERTS particulate matter (PM2.5/PM10) monitors we record, analyse and report key parameters.
  • Our monitoring programmes allow you to:
    • Assess baseline (pre-works) levels and predict potential exceedances.
    • Select mitigation options (barriers, buffers, quieter plant) and monitor their effectiveness.
    • Demonstrate compliance to local authorities, mitigate risk of complaints, safeguard nearby communities and infrastructure.
  • Typical deliverables: automatic real-time alerts, daily/weekly reporting, monthly summary dashboards, calibration certificates, and final summary with recommendations.

Section 61 (“Control of Noise at Construction Sites”) Consultancy

In England & Wales, the Section 61 process under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 allows contractors to apply for consent in advance of working, setting limits and measures for noise control.

  • We guide you through drafting and submitting Section 61 applications, handling the technical appendices (noise predictions, schedules, mitigation strategies), liaising with the local authority and addressing any objections.
  • We provide support in defining “best practicable means” (BPM) for noise control, specifying working hours, defining noise thresholds, and coordinating with environmental health officers.
  • As part of our service we embed the Section 61 commitments into your NDVMP so that monitoring, reporting and control measures are integrated.

Noise, Dust & Vibration Management Plans (NDVMPs)

We prepare bespoke site-specific management plans covering noise, vibration and dust risks – from design stage through to completion.

  • The plan includes: risk assessment for noise, vibration and dust sources; baseline receptor mapping; mitigation hierarchy; monitoring methodology; notification and complaint procedures; roles & responsibilities; review and auditing schedule.
  • Typical content: equipment-specification tables, sensitive-receptor contact lists, monitoring deployment plans, trigger levels, contingency measures (e.g., ground-vibration thresholds, dust suppression systems)
  • By implementing an NDVMP you can demonstrate to clients, contractors and regulators that you are managing your environmental impact and complying with best‐practice.
Anderson Acoustics have provided invaluable support to BFK on the Crossrail project... It is a pleasure working with such a professional team.

What we've done

CASE STUDY

Demolition works have a high risk of dust emissions, particularly during structural break-down and material processing. We discuss how dust risk assessments can ensure compliance

CASE STUDY

Brownfield redevelopment and remediation activities can give rise to dust emissions, landfill and ground gases, and odour impacts that pose risks to public health, worker safety and community amenity. We discuss our experience delivering dust, gas and odour monitoring programmes for complex brownfield sites, supporting developers, contractors and local authorities through planning, remediation and construction phases

CASE STUDY

Refurbishment within occupied buildings creates an unusual overlap of worlds: the inherently disruptive nature of construction activity intersecting with environments designed for stability, precision, and continuity. We discuss why dust monitoring is important

CASE STUDY

How proactive noise management kept a critical sewer upgrade on track

CASE STUDY

Dust from demolition and construction activities can affect human health, amenity, and ecology. We discuss why monitoring is needed

CASE STUDY

Noise and vibration monitoring at two wastewater sites to ensure compliance and community engagement

CASE STUDY

Vibration from demolition, piling, and earthworks activities can cause structural damage and disturb nearby communities even at vibration levels that cannot cause structural damage, as humans are very sensitive to vibration. We discuss the importance of vibration monitoring

CASE STUDY

Robust assessments of potential noise impacts during both construction and operation phases for this major regeneration project of the Victorian structure

CASE STUDY

Noise emissions from demolition sites can significantly impact local communities. We discuss the importance of noise monitoring

CASE STUDY

Support for a section 61 application and noise and vibration monitoring for road overbridge works

CASE STUDY

A noise and vibration assessment for the City Council to minimise the impact of ground improvement works on nearby residential and commercial units

CASE STUDY

Construction noise, dust and vibration are not new challenges. What is surprising is how often their importance is still underestimated. We discuss why it is important to manage these environmental risks
