Forum Acusticum

Paper: Inclusive Acoustic Design for Mainstream Schools - An Evidence Based Approach

Jack Harvie-Clark of Apex Acoustics will be presenting this paper at the 10th Convention of the European Acoustics Association - Forum Acusticum 2023 in Torino, Italy 11th-15th September 2023. The paper represents work done jointly with Emma Greenland, Principal Acoustic Consultant and Education Sector Lead together with Adrian James of Adrian James Acoustics. The paper examines the following questions:- • What are the differing listening needs for students with different types of special hearing and communication needs (SHCN)? • How can we quantify the listening disadvantage for different types of listening needs, including SHCN, English as an Additional Language, Early Years and other emerging listening needs?

Paper: Improving Access to Listening in Mainstream Schools

Listening is one of the most important activities within a school. If the acoustic environment is poor, pupils struggle to understand and retain information. It’s particularly challenging for pupils who have special hearing or communication needs (SHCN), English as an additional language (EAL), or for young children in primary schools. Download the White Paper to find out how to improve acoustics for inclusion and access in a mainstream schools.
