A group of managers from the company took time out last week to attend this Mental Health First Aid course delivered by Westfield Health
Course content was insightful and encouraged important reflection on how to start conversations and support those who need help. The group discussion and exercises were expertly led by Andrew Flockton.
It’s easy to focus on deadlines, targets, and deliverables — but real leadership also means knowing how to show up for your team as people. This course was a great reminder that mental health isn’t a “nice to have” in the workplace; it’s essential.
From understanding the Stress Container to exploring the conversation cycle, we were given practical tools to have more supportive, empathetic conversations — not just to fix problems, but to listen, guide, and lead with compassion.
On reflecting his participation, Robin Monaghan listed a few powerful questions that he will take forward:
- What’s in my stress container?
- What can I change, influence, or accept?
- Who can help me?
- What healthy coping strategies can I try?
We would highly recommend this course to any managers looking to build a healthier, more open workplace culture.
This week has been Mental Health Awareness Week so the course could not have come at a more opportune time. We will be putting into action the strategies learnt within the company to the benefit of all.
