Nicole Porter attended the ICBEN & ISEE Environmental Noise SIG Webinar on noise exposure, effects, and interventions last month. Nicole is a consultant in our Aviation team leading our research in the field so it was great to be able to join the webinar with over 70 global attendees exploring key research on environmental noise and public health.
The International Commission on Biological Effects of Noise has a goal to promote a high level of scientific research concerning all the aspects of noise-induced effects on human beings and on animals including preventive regulatory measures and to keep alive a vivid communication among the scientists working in that field.
The Environmental Noise Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Institute for Safety and Environmental Sciences (ISEE) focuses on researching and addressing the impact of environmental noise on human health and well-being.
We heard from leading experts including Dr. Jean Marc Wunderli (Empa), Dr. Mette Sørensen (Danish Cancer Society), and Dr. Martin Röösli (Swiss TPH), covering:
•Advances in noise exposure modelling and control strategies
•Links between transportation noise and health outcomes – evaluating some other outcomes not previously reviewed in detail including breast cancer, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease
•The role of interventions and the need for robust longitudinal studies – an area we at Anderson Acoustics have advocated for and indeed are currently researching.
