Recently, Emma Greenland went to check out Max Cooperโs tactile sound installation at ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ exhibition at the Barbican Centre, in advance of its launch.
Electronic musician and audio-visual artist Max Cooper has 2 commissions at the event including for ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ ๐จ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐ง๐ and ๐ ๐จ๐ซ๐๐ฏ๐๐ซ ๐ ๐ซ๐๐ช๐ฎ๐๐ง๐๐ข๐๐ฌ including tactile sound benches with bass shakers.
Dame Evelyn Glennie features in the ๐ ๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ experiential spaces which encourage visitors to listen not just with their ears, but with their whole body, exploring how sound shapes our connection to ourselves, each other, and the environments we inhabit. Also, ๐๐๐๐๐ก ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ซ๐ฅ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฌ๐ญ๐๐ง is a newly commissioned film by Dame Glennie which explores how listening is not simply hearing sounds or words. Hearing is an involuntary process, but listening is an art that demands engagement, presence and intent.
Both artists have provided really useful feedback and encouragement as we develop our high end version of the tactile sound table. We will be going back to experience the full exhibition soon!
