INWED 2025

Monday 23rd June was International Women in Engineering Day 2025 and we stand with thousands of others in recognition of the amazing work that women engineers around the world are doing. This year’s theme is π‘»π’π’ˆπ’†π’•π’‰π’†π’“ 𝑾𝒆 π‘¬π’π’ˆπ’Šπ’π’†π’†π’“.

Only 12% of the Institute of Acoustics membership are women, yet at Anderson Acoustics we have more than double the proportion of women acting as consultants. We also have more women on the board, 33% versus an average of 28% amongst top construction companies.

One our early career acousticians Caroline McKinlay spent the day on site at a school in support of her dissertation research she is completing for her IoA Diploma in Acoustics and Noise Control.

‘I’m excited to be focusing my dissertation on the acoustics of school dining hallsβ€”an often overlooked but vital part of the school environment. Specifically, I’m exploring how reverberation time affects students’ comfort and overall experience in these spaces.

Typically, discussions on school acoustics focus on classrooms due to their impact on student learning and comprehension. However, dining halls also play a crucial role in students’ social development and well-being. These spaces should support rest, connection, and recovery between lessons.

Through my research, I hope to highlight the importance of good acoustic design in helping achieve these goals.’

Good luck with the dissertation Caroline and we cant wait to announce your successful graduation from the course this Summer!
