Last week Harry Foster, Consultant in our Air Quality team, attended the Air Quality & Emissions Expo (AQE Expo) at the NEC in Birmingham. Harry particularly enjoyed talks from a wide range of speakers, covering how London’s “clean air” is being monitored, the growing importance of indoor air quality, and practical case studies from across the sector.
He also took the opportunity to explore the many exhibitor stalls, where companies were showcasing and demonstrating the latest air quality monitoring technologies. With so many innovations on display, we may see some exciting upgrades for us in the future.

What happens when the air inside your own home makes you sick?
That question stayed with me after last week’s insightful Air Quality and Emissions Expo at the NEC in Birmingham.
One of the highlights was hearing Rosamund Adoo-Kissi-Debrah CBE and Jim Mills discuss how air quality affects us all, especially families and children. Rosamund is one of those real, to-the-point voices who speaks with honesty and impact – something I found really powering.
The next day, Lisa Malyon from Indoor Air Aware gave an incredible presentation on her personal battle with indoor air quality issues. Like Rosamund, Lisa was straight-to-the-point, and that is what I found so inspiring. Beyond sharing her story, she has built, and continues to build, a movement to make indoor air quality knowledge accessible to everyone. Through free resources, clear and actionable advice, and her “healthy home” visits, she is empowering people to take simple steps that make a real difference to the air they breathe.
The event was a fantastic reminder that while air quality data, modelling and policy are essential, it is the real, human stories, told with honesty and clarity, that drive meaningful change.
