Institute for Regeneration and Repair

Background

Anderson Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy for the new Institute for Regeneration and Repair building, a research institute based at the University of Edinburgh and within the Edinburgh BioQuarter.

The five storey building will bring together around 600 researchers with a focus on tissue regeneration and repair.

What we did

Brought on at RIBA Stage 3 and commissioned by the University, we developed a set of bespoke acoustic performance targets for the building that aligned with client expectations and set the benchmark for achieving four credits targeted towards BREEAM excellent.

Working closely with the design team we developed detailed acoustic design solutions up to tender stage which included:-

  • detailed advice on room acoustic finishes in areas where speech, communication and concentration are key, including a large multi-storey atrium space, to be used for conference seminars.
  • Advice on wall and floor constructions between sensitive laboratories and cellular offices
  • Detailed calculations of mechanical services noise and advice on room side and atmosphere side attenuation to meet target noise levels

The result

Our acoustic recommendations were adopted and the building is now a fully operational research facility having achieved all targeted BREEAM credits associated with acoustic performance.
