Background
We were commissioned by the Jenner Group to provide acoustic consultancy services in relation to Blocks 2A and 2B, a new two and three storey building on the Ashford College Campus.
The buildings will provide dedicated facilities to form the new teaching spaces, offices and engineering workshop.
What we did
- Acoustic design
We established the acoustic performance standards for the project with reference to achieving the relevant BREEAM credits and reviewed the current design proposals at Stage 4 against the Stage 3 acoustic design criteria.
The scheme is targeting a minimum rating ‘Very Good’ under The BREEAM UK New Construction 2018_V3.01 sustainability assessment method.
- Pre-Completion commissioning testing
The purpose of the testing is to determine compliance with the acoustic performance criteria set for the project at Stage 4 and demonstrate compliance with the BREEAM credits being targeted, Hea 05 and Pol 05.
Three credits are available under Hea 05 (Health and wellbeing – sound insulation, indoor ambient noise levels reverberation times). One credit is available under Pol 05 Noise Pollution.
BREEAM Hea 05 (Health and Wellbeing) acoustic credits refer to compliance with the BB93 acoustic requirements for sound insulation, indoor ambient noise levels and reverberation times. Compliance with these criteria would allow for compliance with BREEAM Hea 05 credits by default.
Our testing showed that the build was compliant and we advised all credits could be awarded.
Project Progress
The build was completed in time for the students and staff starting a new academic year in 2023. Read more here on the Jenner Group’s website.
