Background
Anderson Acoustics provided acoustic consultancy for a new and exclusive restaurant bar and invite only private members club situated in the heart of Fitzrovia with ‘the best sound quality in London’. The restaurant is now open to the public and is run by cutting edge chef John Javier (aka @sex.pesto).
“Our aim was best sounding club room, that we knew of, in Europe”. R. Miran, Owner
The club consists of a ground floor bar and restaurant with a calm and relaxing environment above a basement studio club with sound levels of over 100 decibels. Each area hosts its own unique atmosphere and feel separate from each other.

The Challenge
We worked with the Client, design team and contractor to ensure that the acoustic conditions within the basement club and the ground floor bar were balanced and controlled to compliment the state-of-the-art sound system installation.
The Solution
We calculated reverberation time in both spaces, and made recommendations for room acoustic treatment in the basement club and ground floor restaurant to support the proposed audio system and maximise its capability. A highly sound absorbent stair lobby achieves an ‘acoustic portal’ to help the basement club feel separate from the restaurant above.
We also provided advice on suitable floating floor construction solutions for the high performance separating floor and sound insulating ceiling, and treatment for other sound transmission paths to ensure that music from the basement club did not disturb the ambiance of the ground floor bar. Vibration isolation of the DJ table was also considered.
The Result
Our design recommendations were validated with supplementary sound insulation and reverberation time testing. Measured results showed a close agreement with the calculated predictions with a flat response and 0.3-0.4 seconds reverberation time in the club, and allowed the loudspeaker manufacturer to further ‘tune’ their system to compliment the space.
Testimonials
“Feedback from the sound and music industries, including from DJs, musicians, and sound engineers has generally been consistent, concluding that there is no known equivalent club of similar size with comparable sound quality, anywhere in the world”. R. Miran, Owner
“As soon as you walk in, it feels special, hushed, and exclusive. The space is decorated like a Bedouin tent with a starry sky above. Floating moons and orange mushrooms give the room its ambient glow, while a DJ sits and plays beats out the cutting-edge German Martion-Audiosysteme at a perfect decibel level. The atmosphere is deliciously layered”. Talisa Dean, Restaurant reviewer The Nudge.com
