Background
Anderson Acoustics was commissioned by Peldon Rose to provide acoustic design consultancy for the new Vitality office fit-out on the fifth floor of 80 Strand, London.
What we did
The primary objective was to ensure adequate speech privacy between sensitive office spaces and to achieve optimal reverberation times for effective communication and concentration. Benchmark testing was conducted at Vitality’s current office to inform the minimum performance standards for the new fit-out.
Speech privacy
Speech privacy is crucial in office environments to prevent conversations from being overheard and to maintain confidentiality. The level of privacy is determined by the sound insulation of separating elements and background noise levels.
Support was provided through the design and the construction phases to achieve optimum acoustic privacy between spaces. This involved advising on suitable constructions from the outset, providing guidance on effective junction detailing and monitoring the installation during the construction phase to manage the impact of base–build constraints on acoustic performance.
Reverberation Time
Reverberation time (RT) measures how long sound persists in a space after the source has stopped. Shorter RTs are preferred in office environments to enhance speech intelligibility and reduce noise.
Each space was carefully considered, with advice provided on type, quantity and location of acoustic finishes to provide optimal acoustic comfort across the workspaces.
Result
The fit-out is now complete and commissioned. The acoustic targets established and agreed at the design stage were carried through to completion.
