Background
Anderson Acoustics was appointed by Peldon Rose to provide acoustic design advice and post‑completion commissioning for Valesco Group’s office fit‑out at Berkeley Square, London. The brief required defined levels of speech privacy between enclosed spaces, alongside controlled reverberation to support day‑to‑day workplace use.
The Challenge
The fit‑out included meeting rooms, Zoom rooms, collaboration spaces, breakout areas and heritage rooms, each with different acoustic performance requirements. Confidential discussions needed to be protected between sensitive spaces. In the heritage areas, hard finishes and larger room volumes increased the risk of excessive reverberation if not appropriately treated.
Our Approach
We developed a workplace acoustics strategy, and provided practical guidance on partitions, doors, glazed screens and junction detailing, to achieve the defined speech privacy criteria. Benchmark reverberation testing was undertaken within the heritage rooms, with the results used to inform room‑specific predictions.
The Solution
Partition constructions were coordinated to deliver appropriate soundproofing performance based on room use, including slab‑to‑slab walls where confidential separation was required. Door sets, void barriers and service penetrations were identified as critical sound paths and addressed through coordinated detailing. Reverberation was controlled using targeted acoustic panels, with Class A and Class C wall treatments sized and distributed to achieve the required reverberation values without over‑treating the spaces.
The Outcome
Slab‑to‑slab partitions provided confidential or near‑confidential speech privacy, while other wall and glazed systems achieved reasonable to good privacy consistent with their specification. Reverberation times across meeting rooms, collaboration spaces, Zoom rooms and heritage rooms met the defined targets.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates the importance of combining early acoustic design advice with on‑site verification in commercial environments. By aligning design review, benchmark testing and commissioning, we provided clear evidence that the completed fit‑out performs as intended. The new office provides speech clarity, appropriate levels of privacy and practical workplace usability across a complex office layout.
Project Progress
The fit-out is complete and the space is in use. The acoustic environment now supports confidential meetings, focused work, and comfortable collaboration. For more information head on over to Peldon Rose’s website
