Saffron House

Background

Saffron House is an existing office use building in the heart of Farringdon, London Borough of Camden. The scope of the development included the fit-out of the lower ground floor level to provide high quality office space.

The development was to be assessed in accordance with BREEAM Refurbishment and Fit Out (2014) towards an ‘Excellent’ target rating.

Our involvement

Anderson Acoustics was commissioned by Avison Young, Blackrock Ltd and Parkeray Interiors to provide acoustic consultancy services from Stage 2 to completion.

Working closely with the design team from 2022, we established the acoustic performance standards and key acoustic design issues advising on sound insulation and internal ambient noise levels to achieve a desirable acoustic environment for work and, in turn, the relevant BREEAM credits.

Liaising with Camden Council, we also undertook the necessary works to ensure all new and replacement plant complied with local authority requirements for planning and BREEAM purposes. In doing so, we referenced the Council’s Local Plan 2017, which sets out the strategy and policies to manage and mitigate noise exposure within the Borough including the required use of the British Standard 4142:2014 for assessing industrial and commercial noise sources.

Just prior to completion, we undertook acoustic commissioning testing to obtain all acoustic related BREEAM credits.  The tested sound insulation, internal ambient noise levels and plant noise emissions all complied with the set criteria, achieving 2 credits for BREEAM Hea 05: Acoustic Performance and 1 credit for Pol 05 Reduction of noise pollution.
