Background

This project is one of a number of successful office fit-out projects we have helped Peldon Rose deliver over the past few years. Peldon Rose, a leading office design and build expert based in London, were appointed by Marlin Equity, a global investment firm, to deliver their new office at 1 Newman Street, London.

Challenge

The fit-out included for various office space uses: client meeting rooms, general meeting rooms, cellular offices, open plan office areas, a wellness room, reception/lobby, a Boardroom and a social space. With all these uses in close proximity, the key challenge for us is ensuring the acoustic design of each space supports its intended use whilst working harmoniously with the rest of the office areas.

From an acoustics perspective, the key objectives of the projects were:

Achieving a high level of sound insulation for client meeting rooms, such that even raised speech could not be heard outside of these rooms;
Achieving a good level of sound insulation between general meeting rooms and cellular offices, such that normal speech could not be heard outside these rooms;
Ensuring suitable acoustic finishes in all sensitive office areas, providing good speech intelligibility and conditions for concentration.
Achieving all of the above whilst minimising project costs;

What we did

Working closely with Peldon Rose we undertook a detailed review of design proposals to ensure the finalised design would meet client expectations. We advised on suitable wall constructions, critical junction detailing and penetration detailing in order to meet the necessary levels of sound insulation between spaces.

We advised on the placement, extent and type of finishes required to ensure the acoustics within each individual space supported its function.

We guided the design of the mechanical ventilation system such that fan noise contributed to privacy between areas whilst not being too high to impact on concentration.
