Background
Our client Staticus were responsible for designing and installing the façade for this build-to-rent tower on the Northern Docks of Liverpool City Centre. The project had already started on site when we were appointed to unlock concerns raised by the main contractor on the proposed façade acoustic performance.
Challenge
The façade was required to meet stringent acoustic performance requirements for both external noise intrusion and flanking sound control. We were brought in to provide an expert review of the proposed design to demonstrate that these requirements would be met, or recommend improvements to the design, where needed, to meet the requirements.
The above is quite standard for us, however the main challenge on this project was the short timescales in which to get this done, so that we could ensure Staticus maintained on time with the production and installation of the profiles.
What we did
Reacting to the demands of the project we used a combination of comparable laboratory test data and acoustic modelling techniques to establish both the expected sound reduction and flanking performance of the proposed façade and appraised each sensitive area to determine if project requirements would be met.
We identified that in some areas the system required some enhancing to meet project requirements. The enhancements were presented to the main contractor and approved.
The Result
The assessments and recommendations were approved over a short time frame, which meant Staticus could push on with the production and installation of the façade to meet the project timeframes.
Open to residents in 2021, the building and its façade met all acoustic performance requirements.
