Background
Anderson Acoustics was commissioned by Creative Cedar Ltd to advise on the acoustic design for the conversion of the Grade II listed Central Methodist Hall in Birmingham to provide a new boutique hotel providing a 147-bed hotel and a 75-bed apart-hotel with associated restaurants, bars and café establishments.
What we did
We joined the project to develop the acoustic design to the end of RIBA Stage 3. The project presented many acoustic challenges, namely protecting hotel guestrooms from the operation of neighboring entertainment venues, including a central auditorium space (formerly known as The Que Club).
Recommendations were given for the sound insulation of the external envelope and internal divisions, the provision of acoustic finishes and the control of noise from building services plant. Adequate control of internal ambient noise will ensure guestrooms are comfortable environments for relaxation and sleep.
Project Progress
Plans are now submitted with Birmingham City Council.
