Background
Dublin Airport embarked on a significant expansion project aimed at constructing a second runway to accommodate the increasing demand for air travel. As part of this expansion, Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) were required to meet several noise objectives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
What We Did
Our team was contracted to provide expert acoustic design advice and conduct necessary assessments to support Dublin Airport’s second runway application. Our scope of work included supporting the noise impact assessment for the proposed runway aimed primarily at understanding the impact from night-time movements, as well as assisting in the development of a noise insulation scheme.
Key Services Provided:
- Noise Impact Assessment: we conducted a thorough noise impact assessment to identify potential differences in noise level between the baseline and future options to develop mitigation strategies.
- Environmental Noise Mapping: utilising advanced environmental noise mapping techniques, we analysed a number of scenarios to understand the likely change compared to the existing conditions and predict potential impacts of the airport expansion specifically at night.
- Noise insulation scheme design: we worked closely with the airport to design a new boundary for the noise insulation scheme to comply with the noise abatement objective. This involved in part a cost effectiveness analysis to ensure the grant offered could mitigate all types of dwelling.
Result
Our comprehensive acoustic design services played a vital role in supporting Dublin Airport’s expansion efforts, facilitating a smooth planning process, and mitigating potential noise impacts on surrounding areas.
