Social Value Statement

As an employee-owned conscious business our mission is to apply our professional environmental skills for a better future. The company is run for the direct benefit of the employee-owners and all profits are therefore reinvested into our people and the local economy.

Our goal is the ongoing improvement of quality of life and economic fairness (eradication of poverty) rather than the pursuit of growth for growth’s sake. We select the projects we work on using quality of life criteria and re-invest profits in our people, equipment and offices. We support initiatives that seek to level-up society, and expect our sub-contractors to do the same. We are Living Wage employers and offer training positions for entrants into the acoustics industry. We have gender-pay parity and actively seek female employees through affirmative action. We support job creation and facilitate opportunities for small-and-medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and social businesses, and we are signatories to the Prompt Payment Code.

We have a duty to protect, respect, fulfil and progressively realize human rights and we and our sub-contractors operate stringent Modern Slavery, Sustainable Procurement, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and Anti-Harassment & Bullying Policies.

We promote public policies that support social sustainability and partner with other businesses, pooling strengths to make a greater positive impact – an example being our participation in the Brighton Conscious Business community.

We actively participate in client community outreach programmes such as school engagement days for LM-JV on the HS2 North enabling works project. We also financially contribute to client charitable fundraising, most recently for LM-JV and Baxall Construction. We financially support the Noise Abatement Society John Connell Awards promoting sustainable, co-created sound environments, soundscape and good acoustic design for all. We financially supported the production of the movie “In Pursuit of Silence” raising awareness of noise in modern society.

We have signed up to the UK Business Climate Hub, a Government supported initiative and have committed to be a carbon net-zero organisation by 2030

We are members of the following organisations with formal environmental objectives: Institute of Acoustics (Code of Conduct), UK Green Building Council (sustainable built environment and collective action to address climate crisis); British Council for Offices (sustainability and wellbeing in the workplace); British Aviation Group Sustainability Working Group; Constructionline Silver (EMS assessment) and Builders Profile (EMS assessment).

We support homeless charities local to our London and Brighton offices, The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Brighton and The Manna Society, London Bridge, most recently via a charity London to Brighton cycle. We also support charities that directly touch the professional and personal lives of our team including the Royal National Institute for Deaf People (RNID), raising money through participation in Deaf Awareness Week, and the Teenage Cancer Trust.

We offer pro-bono consulting services to local charitable projects, most recently acoustic design support for the Fitzherbert Community Hub in Brighton which aims to reduce food poverty and social isolation by providing a safe place where local people can come to eat, form lasting relationships, exercise and belong. We have also provided significant long-term support to Tranquil City, an initiative to promote and curate tranquil spaces in London and we encourage and support our staff to volunteer with local charities on company time, most recently for the YoungMinds, the national charity committed to improving the mental health of all children and young people. During the initial Covid-19 lockdown we donated PPE equipment and hand sanitizer to the NHS.
